Today's Topic: Al-Anon miracles

I would like to share one ofthe most spiritual experiences of my life- and believe me, I have had many. My husband and I were very privileged to attend the side-by-side AA/Al-Anon Conventions in seattle, in July of 1990.
I had been a member of Al-Anon for some time when my sisters and I discovered our dear mother had become an alcoholic at the age of seventy-nine years. Alcoholism, as I know, does not show any respect for anyone, whatever their lifestyle, who they are, or what age. Our mother died when she was 89 years old with two-and-a-half years sobriety behind her. God bless her.
I was sharing at the convention. It was a wonderful experience- sharing about my mother, who had just died in April 1990. I was feeling squite choked up but proud to be my mother's daughter. At that moment, I was unaware that my nephew from Canada had just walked into his first Al-Anon meeting because of my brother's alcoholism. That alone was a spiritual experience.
After the meeting closed, the members formed queues in lines of four to thank the four speakers. Anyway, I was eventually facing the last lady in my queue. We shook hands and she told me she could identify with me and how she would like to meet my husband. A few moments later my husband came to meet me so they both met. The lady asked if I would write to her when I got back to England.
I said, "With pleasure." She handed me a piece of paper with her name and address on it; I folded it and placed it in my purse. We said, "Cheerio."
After the opening convention dance the coach took my husband and me back to our hotel. It was very late. I felt very happy, feeling my mother close to me. We got redy for bed and I decided to empty my purse and take all the little keepsakes that had been given to me and place them in my case.
I opened the piece of paper my friend had given me and her name was the same as my mother's and also my maiden name. I felt someone had walked on my grave. My darling mother was telling me she was at peace at last with her Higher Power. My friend could have gone to any queue, but she was guided to me. My mother was at peace. My mother knew I was in Al-Anon but never understood. She eventually accepted my change in attitude and the fact that my enabling had to stop.
When I arrived back in England, the first thing I did was write and tel lmy friend of the experience. She wrote back straight away and told me she cried, and asked my permission to take my letter to her group and share our experience. We are Al-Anon best-of-pals and keep very much in touch. My friend was guided to my queue by our Higher Power.

"Do I recognize inexplicable events as the work of my Higher Power?"
